When I last saw Benoit Mintiens, the Belgian founder of watch brand Ressence, he was excitedly showing me the prototype of the Type 3 watch. I was pretty darn impressed. Boutique brand Ressence is among the few watch brands out there (large or small) that I'd consider as benefiting from my hard-earned watch buying money. Benoit is just that type of outside-the-box thinking innovator that I like to personally support. So let's see how Ressence built on their core concept with a crown-free, liquid-filled watch.

What I did get to play with was the steel on leather strap version of this curved-case timepiece. The square case is dramatically curved to fit nicely on your wrist. So much so that it is hard to imagine how they put a round mechanical chronograph movement in there - but they do. Inside the 1945 XXL Chronograph is an in-house made caliber GP03300 automatic chronograph movement with a power reserve of 46 hours. Sorry I missed getting shots of the caseback, but it does have a sapphire crystal exhibition window.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 Jubilee Watch

From a fashion perspective the watch is sort of cool. I dig it, and I think a lot of people especially in the Southwest here will also enjoy the dial of the Romain Jerome Dia de los Muertos watches as well. Though it will be a pricey piece to justify for "every once in a while." Also, I do see a missed opportunity by RJ in terms of the strap. A few years ago Romain Jerome started to have some special "tattoo" watch straps with cool designs printed into them. I feel like like set of RJ Dia de los Muertos watches would really benefit from having straps that have the same type of art as the skulls. Doesn't that seem right? Perhaps as an option at least. Romain Jerome will produce just 25 pieces of each dial style for a total of 50 Dia de los Muertos watches in the limited edition collection. Price will be ,900 each.

The Morgenwerk M3 is the largest of the three watches at 48mm wide and 16mm thick. Having said that, the pieces are still rather wearable given the titanium case material and overall design. When the final versions come out we will see all the strap options, as well as model variations available. I am pretty darn excited.

The first thing that it reminded me of were the Hublot Ferrari carbon fibre watches that I got to see and handle recently in Geneva. Aside from the carbonfibre-ness, (is that even a word?) these watches share an unmistakable sportiness and masculine feel and most of all, a fun factor which really cannot be quantified.

aBlogtoWatch has been a learning experience, a passion, an addiction, and a career. I still sometimes feel that I am simply cheating my way to handling watches I'd never otherwise be able to afford. I continue to read each comment left on the site, as well as tweets, Facebook messages, and comments on YouTube. If there was anything I could ask for it would be to get even more of those. Even the bad ones. Why? Well when I get a semi-dissertation length complaint on something that I did which a reader disagrees with, I am truly honored. That person feels so emotional about what I do, that they took the time to share what they feel with me. That is a big deal and I take them as seriously as I do all the praise.

I would like that your readers look at our watches through another unusual eye! The PDR story is also the story of a couple. Carole and I shared the same values for more than 30 years. We share the same passion for the sport and we've worked together for about nine years. I think that the PDR watches reflect this alchemy, balancing between power and femininity, technic and emotion. pierrederoche.com

Having said that the case is very cool. Bell & Ross added another square shape to the bezel, but one that is turned at a 45 degree angle (of course with cut off corners). The bezel is also raised up a bit, and not flat like that on the standard BR01. A little bit of trivia, custom truck and car maker ICON 4x4 has some dashboard bezels in their vehicles that were inspired by the case of the BR01 Pro case and bezel. The case of course is 46mm wide, which for me is the perfect size for this look. Bell & Ross released the smaller 42m wide BR03 as a smaller version of the BR01, but I don't think it has the same visual effect as its larger brothers.

Back before I had a decent flash and macro lens for my camera I wrote about the Breguet 7047 watch here. If you read that article you'll notice that I wasn't too keen on the watch because of the finishing. Two years later I find myself handing the same watch with a different finishing and my feelings are totally different. Little changes to the way a surface is done can have a huge effect on what a watch looks like. The 7047BR is back in my good graces, and thankfully so. It is hard to sneer at a piece with a fusee and chain transmission. I just think that those are too cool.

How does one begin to become a watchmaker? Well, apparently, it begins with really menial and mind-numbing tasks such as learning how to look through the loupe with both eyes open and learning to pick up tiny parts with tweezers without dropping and losing them. An interesting read or maybe a warning call for those who aspire to be a watchmaker.

The Calibre 18 is very similar to the Calibre 12 movements (found in Monaco collection pieces for example). Unlike the larger Link Calibre 16 watches (with base 7750 movements) that are 43mm wide, the Calibre 18 watches are 40mm wide, and considered slim at 14.4mm thick. That isn't slim per se, but "slimmer" for a chronograph watch. These new mid-sized Link models feature fresh dials and fit into the popular bi-compax (two register) chronograph look that many brands are gravitating toward.

If everyone made this watch, why didn’t Rolex evolve the design to stay ahead of the pack… as the car manufacturers did? The Rolex from the early 1960’s pretty much looks like the Rolex of the current year. Can a watch company rest on its design laurels forever? Some would say yes and some would say the competition is very healthy.

Arnold & Son's new Time Pyramid watch was debuted before Baselworld 2013 and I covered it here. Although I had seen images of the timepiece, it was on the short list of watches I was extremely eager to get my hands on at the Baselworld watch show. Inspired by the design of ornate clocks, the movement was a beautifully symmetrical mechanism with an open skeletonized design that emphasized aesthetic achievements as well as open views watch lovers and novices alike can enjoy with ease.

An automatic winding system is inherently weak and during shock or extreme forces it can break. As a sort of "well we might as well include it" feature, Urwerk wanted to make the automatic winding system more interactive. Fully stopping the rotor will stop automatic winding, but will also feasibly protect the movement during certain sport activities. Reducing the efficiency of the spinning engages an additional gear (which is part of the "Turbine Control" system, and slows down the winding. This is useful if you are doing things like playing golf or other activities and want to slow the rotor to protect it. The rest of the time you can keep it on "full." It is easy to say that "well with such an expensive watch why would you wear it when it might break." I would agree. Not only that but the system requires you to plan in advance if you are going to take it into danger. Talk about an extremely horological lifestyle. In the end it is a sort of fun complication - that again - is meant to increase interactivity with your high-end luxury timepieces.

Having said that, it is also nice to look at a clean gold case back, pop it open and then look at the movement and perhaps a little message on the inner caseback that you had Patek Philippe engrave to yourself like “look at you mister!” Patek Philippe is proud of the fact that when the case back is closed, it is virtually invisible from the sides – and that includes the hinge and the notch to open it. All in all, it is a pretty elegant system and a nice addition to round-out an otherwise great watch.

Citizen Proximity Bluetooth Watch For iPhone Review Wrist Time Reviews

Since many cities (not all) participate in daylight saving times, some of the cities on the ring include a line and dot (colored white) for DST.  Instead of reading the time matching the hour nearest to the center of that city, you instead follow the line to the dot and read the hour closest to that dot.  Such is the case for London, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, and others, but is not the case for Beijing which, as well as the rest of China, does participate in DST time changes.  The whole thing works simply and accurately.  I have not had any issues in six months and that included a time change in the fall.

While agate rock may not be that uncommon, watches with hand-carved agate dials are. It is one of those interesting artistic skills that brands like Cartier like to make use of from time to time when impressing a very limited audience. As such, the Rotonde de Cartier Flying Tourbillon Crocodile Motif watch will be in the hands (I mean on the wrist) of no more than 30 people total. I do wonder if it is the same group of people eagerly awaiting the new Cartier art pieces each year, or if Cartier is able to expand the market for these interesting niche luxury pieces.
